Tout alors! A side trip to Lille

Bonjour Tout le Monde! Today I've learnt that in the time it takes me for me to walk to work (with a stop for a coffee on route) I could get to France on a train. 35 minutes to be exact. 35 MINUTES. What was even quicker was our decision to go-the suggestion was made before dinner yesterday and tickets were booked in 15 mins. For an Australian who normally has to spend at least 6 months planning an Overseas Jaunt this was a revelation.
I found the whole tunnel thing to be the most bizarre experience. The French 'Border Guards' based in Folkestone were completely uninterested in checking our passports-I went to hand them over, he glanced at me, pursed his lips in a particularly Gaelic manner and muttered what I thought sounded like 'La Boef' (French feeling a bit rusty) and waved us on without even touching our passports. Result! You then drive your car into a cattle car-like compartment and you have to sit in your car with the windows down while the train goes under the Channel. 35 mins later out you pop like a Champagne Cork straight onto a series of roundabouts to a highway. I think this is the French way of sorting out the Wheat from the Chaff as you are now driving on the opposite side of the road.
We drove to Lille (with a quick stop for a coffee and croissant just to make sure we were in France) and went straight to a wonderful Haberdashery shop where I went on, what can only be described as a Beserk Crampage (craft based rampage). An hour and a half later we staggered onto the street hot and sweaty with a bag full of loot and I can't really remember what happened in there...
Fast forward to a delicious Lunch (I'm still reeling from the richness of it so cant talk about it) followed by a wander and time to go...to a giant supermarket. Costco shmosco I say. I would much rather a Carrefour. They have EVERYTHING. Including potatoes in a jar. Love it. Over and out #slumpsinchair *

* that's my first and likely last hash tag joke. I don't really even get it.

Adios Amigos!

Well. My first Post. Lill wasn't sure it would actually happen but here we are and I'm going to give it a good crack.
I fried my brain on night shift and I looked sufficiently crap enough at check-in that Victor The Qantas Man kindly blocked the seat next to me. Despite being distinctly unreligious I have been frantically praying to the God Of Upgrades. However- I think he must be busy....
So pleased to not be sitting next to anyone who asks if my hair is real, tells me my feet are nice, asks if I would marry my cousin or eats all my lollies, I'm going to relax and enjoy a very posh soup in Departures.

Next stop-London. Over and Out xx
